Summer Term

DT and Art - Textiles & Cloth, Thread and Paint

In DT this half term, we will be answering the question: How can we stiffen and preserve fabric?

To do answer our question, we are combining our Art work with DT and are going to be creating a piece of art that uses paint, cloth and thread. After we have made our creation we are going to preserve it using a tried and tested method! For our first lesson, we have been planning our work and have tested a variety of sewing methods that we will use in our final piece of art.

Maths - Negative Numbers

To explore negative numbers, we have been doing some real life maths! We went outside and practiced drawing different thermometers with chalk and practiced counting down from 10 into negative numbers.

We have LOVED our tag rugby lessons this half term. We have learnt so many skills for playing a game of tag ruby as well as learning about good sportsmanship and teamwork.

RE - The Church

This week, we went to visit Scorton Methodist Church. We have been looking at the similarities and differences between our Church and other churches and learning all about how different people worship God. We loved how many different resources were inside the Methodist church and were very excited to find out when the church first was built.

Art - Using Natural Resources to Create Images

This week, we continued to take inspiration from Frances Hatch and took random swatches from nature to create four different images. We worked on our inventiveness and tried very hard to think creatively and not draw our 'obvious' ideas.

History - Victorian Education

This week in History, we 'speed-ran' a Victorian school day. We started our day at 8:55 and took part in our morning lessons of Maths and handwriting. For playtime, the boys and girls had their separate playtimes and played pass the slipper and hopscotch. We had to follow our Victorian school rules all afternoon including standing when an adult entered the room, only using our right hand to write and standing to answer questions!

RE - The Church

We were very lucky to go on a tour of the Catholic church for our unit of RE. We were so excited to find out how old the Catholic church was and see parts that were as old as the building and the parts that had been rebuilt. We also found out that there are a lot of similarities between our church and the Catholic church as well as some differences.

Art - Using Natural Resources to Create Images

We loved our second outdoor art lesson! Continuing taking inspiration from Frances Hatch, we started to plan our final piece of art work that will combine pencil textures, natural swatches and paint made from mud, berries and other things we collect. In today's lesson, we explored the different textures we find outside and create a scrapbook / mood board style of art work.

History - Victorian Education

In History, we are learning about what it was like to go to school in Victorian Britain. In our second lesson of the unit, we immersed ourselves into a Victorian classroom! We learnt about and roleplayed through a traditional Victorian school day and had a go at following some of their very strict rules like standing any time an adult entered the room, standing to answer questions and only using our right hand to write!

Art - Using Natural Materials to Make Images

In our first Art lesson, we took inspiration from Frances Hatch and immersed ourself into nature. Our first challenge was to gather as many swatches of colour from our playground and field. We were so amazed by the amount of colours we could gather from the different areas!

Our second challenge was to pick only one of the swatches we had taken to create some art work. Some of us chose to create using our swatch as inspiration and others decided to draw first and then include our swatch.
