Design & Technology

What is it like to learn Design Technology at Scorton Primary School?

At Scorton Primary School our inspirational design technology curriculum enables our pupils to develop all the skills required for an increasingly technological world. We encourage our pupils to be independent, creative and take risks.

Our challenging and balanced curriculum develops skills in understanding materials, mechanisms, structures, systems, food and nutrition and textiles.

In the Early Years our pupils make decisions and develop their motor skills through continuous provision.

Our pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems as each unit poses a key question for us to address.

The pre-teaching of vocabulary enables our pupils to use subject specific knowledge with confidence.

Pupils are introduced to the work of designers past and present as a means of evaluating the impact of design on daily life and the wider world.

We use design books to collate our research, design ideas, skills practice and evaluations.

Progression in Food and Nutrition

Pupils in year 5 and year 6 created pasta sauces.
