Scorton C of E

Primary School

Pre-School

Our Early Years provision is made up of Reception and Nursery, where children are able to join us from the age of 3. Our Early Years provision forms part of our KS1 class, which is called Bowland.

At Scorton we are passionate about playful learning. We believe that all children are budding scientists, artists, mathematicians, authors, and scholars and have an inherent drive to learn and make a positive impact on the world. Playful Learning is the magic that takes place when you combine a child’s natural sense of curiosity with thoughtfully planned learning experiences.

Our approach in Bowland class is very definitely child centred. We make it our business to know our children inside out and we seize every opportunity to create learning opportunities inspired by their ideas and interests. In Bowland Class, children do not spend all their time sitting at tables working, they learn in a wide variety of different ways and we aim to be as creative and imaginative as we can in finding ways to excite the childrens’ interest and enthusiasm. Every child is a unique person capable of extraordinary things and we celebrate this here at Scorton. Our pupils see themselves as one big family, growing, learning and playing together. Not only do our youngest children get individualised learning in a creative, engaging environment, they also get a whole new set of big brothers and sisters. The older children are wonderful role models and nurture our Bowland class members brilliantly.

Our Pre-school provision prepares our littlest learners for their move in to Reception Class, ensuring a smooth, happy and confident transition into the world of ‘big school’.

Our staff team is led by Mrs. Emma Pollitt, who is a leading foundation stage teacher. She has a wealth of experience as an early years and infant practitioner and teachers from other schools come to visit us to learn from her inspirational example. Mrs. Pollitt is supported by a full-time Higher Level Teaching Assistant in addition to our full time classroom assistant.
