Autumn Term
Design Technology
Today we used our Design Technology skills to design a gadget that would improve the fitness of a BBC Gladiator! We started by thinking about our design brief and individually designed a gadget that would incorporate a micro:bit. We discussed our ideas in teams and had to work collaboratively. Our team designs are a combination of all the best parts of our original designs. The final design will be entered into the BBC Gladiators Micro:bit competition!
Computing
In Computing we have been learning all about computer systems and how search engines work. We have been learning how information is transferred between systems and devices, both in small-scale systems as well as large-scale systems. We can now explain the input, output, and process aspects of a variety of different real-world systems. We also discovered how information is found on the World Wide Web. We know how search engines select and rank results and what influences searching. Why not ask us what a web crawler is at home? We should know!
History - Ancient Greece
Do you recognise this Ancient Greek artefact? In our first History lesson, we became historical detectives and used our prior knowledge and inference skills to guess what this artefact could be. We made some incredible creative claims and supported them with knowledge and visual clues. Some of our ideas were: cheese grater, drain, vent or even a toilet!
English - Kung Fu Punctuation!
We have been mastering the use of punctuation in Nicky Nook Class and have learnt some amazing actions to help them stick. Here are three Nicky Nook role models showing everyone their best Kung-Fu ninja style!
Art - Typography
To create our final typography art works we created maps that represent us as individuals. We were inspired by the artist Grayson Perry and the Marauders Map from Harry Potter. We have combined our typography with 2D and 3D effects.
Art - Typography
We have been learning about typography in art and have been thinking about how it can be used to creatively show and communicate ideas and thoughts. We explored our new unit by creating different letters using paper and thought about what effect that has on the viewer.
English - The Kraken
After reading, learning and reciting the Kraken, we were inspired to create our own version using 'The Dragon' as our title.
Above the snoring of the slumbering clouds;
Far far up high in the mountains,
His invaded, recurring sleep
The dragon sleepeth: rowing at the faintest sun light
Above his shadowy nest of clouds; below him grows
Huge trees of millennial growth and height.
And far far away,
From many a marvellous cloud and egg,
Beating hearts throughout the air.
There hath he rested for ages and will rest
Battening upon huge feasts in his sleep,
Until the latter fire shall heat the clouds,
Then once by man and angels to be seen,
In morning he shall rise and on earth die.
