Friday 16th October

Everyone is very excited about the Spooky Disco this evening - we hope to see you there - please don't forget to bring some pocket money as there will be lots of things to spend it on!

It's our Harvest Festival with Canon Ballard (our new Chair of Governors) on Tuesday morning at 9.30am. We are hoping to make an impressive donation to the St. Thomas's food bank - please support us with this by sending in tinned and dried foods and toiletries for your child to donate or bring them along with you if you are coming to the service.

Bowland  Our EYFS children have been continuing with the story of Goldilocks and the Three bears. They created a story map, designed new chairs for baby bear and collaged a picture of her hair. In Maths we have been working of doubling number 1/2/3, ordering ribbons from shortest to longest and using full and half full when filling containers with oats. KS1 enjoyed writing questions for the Fire Engine - remembering capital letters and questions marks. We enjoyed playing piggy in the middle in PE and bouncing the ball to our friend.

Grizedale This week, the Year 4s had a very exciting morning on Wednesday and joined Nicky Nook for a STEM workshop! We had to work in teams to complete challenges and build a bridge as engineers. Whilst they were busy, the Year 3s took part in some collaborative art work and created a HUGE map of the Land of Roar to support our class novel, which we finished on Monday. We had to work together to design the different areas of the map and think about the scale and positioning of our drawings. In PE this week we took part in a very tricky team building game of floor is lava. We had to work out how we could get our whole team across the playground on stepping stones but we didn't have enough for our whole group at one time!

Nicky Nook Nicky Nook and year 4 took part in a volcano challenge this week. We were learning about the skills needed to complete a challenge and teamwork. We had to design bridges, cost the project, solve and write messages in morse code and build our final design in a limited time. Some people loved working under pressure but others didn't! We are writing non-chronological reports in English and have been using language to ensure we sound like an expert. In maths we have been developing our multiplication and problem-solving skills.

Bowland -  Lead Learner this week is Ophelia, she had a super week particularly in maths - scoring 10/10 in her CLIC and moving up in her Learn Its. Ophelia loves a challenge and completes lots of learning at home.

Grizedale— Lead Learner this week is Henry. Henry has put 100% into everything this week! He is really pushing himself to be the best he can be and it has been noticed by adults in class. He has also worked really hard to improve his times when doing his timetables and has moved up on his Learn its. Well done Henry!

Nicky Nook—   Lily has been a fantastic learner this week. It has been lovely to see her confidence grow as she tackles tricky maths problems. I love the resilience she has shown. Well done Lily!
